Equipping Students for Excellence
Papillion-La Vista South High School would like to congratulate the graduating Class of 2013!
We had 409 Titan students graduate on May 12, 2013 during ceremonies at the Ralston Arena.
This class has had some outstanding highlights throughout their time at PLSHS in the areas of academics, athletics, and the arts:
- $13.4 million dollars in scholarship funds were awarded
- 105 seniors were honored at the Award of Academic Excellence ceremony for a 4.0 or higher cumulative weighted grade point average
- 169 seniors were awarded 632 scholarships
- 149 scholarships were awarded from the Universities of Nebraska at Omaha, Lincoln, and Kearney
- 2 members of this class are National Merit Finalists
- 8 students were awarded ROTC scholarships and 1 was awarded an Air Force Academy appointment
- 85% of the senior class will further their education at a post-secondary institution.
During their time at Papillion-La Vista South, the class of 2013 represented in many ways what is best about being a South Titan. Congratulations to these students and their families, and we wish them the best of luck in the years to come!

American Legion Eagle Scout of the Year
Christopher A. May has been selected as the 2013 Nebraska Eagle Scout of the Year. Christopher will receive a cash prize of $500. His nomination application will be forwarded to The American Legion National Headquarters for consideration in the selection of The American Legion Eagle Scout of the Year. He will be considered for a first place $10,000 scholarship award or three second place scholarships awards of $2,500 each.
American Legion Cornhusker Girls’ State and Boys’ State
Selected candidates will campaign for offices, hold elections, take part in band and chorus, compete in athletics and be involved in other varied activities as part of the citizenship training program. They will set up their own state government and draft bills.
Special lectures and addresses will be delivered by experienced public officials and professional leaders including Governor Dave Heineman and Supreme Court Chief Justice John M. Gerrard. JoAnne Owens-Nauslar is also scheduled to address the Boys’ State group.

American Legion Junior Law Cadet
The Nebraska State Patrol offers an opportunity for cadets to learn about the role of law enforcement officers in the preservation of law and order and in providing the service, security and protection required for the public welfare.

Robotics
PLS Robotics had two teams compete in regional and national events including in a brand new event though AIM Institute. The AIM Institute challenge involved building robots around an open source computer board called an Arduino and doing custom electronics. Our VEX Robotics groups worked hard to design and build partially autonomous robots that scored game objects, bean bags, in an elevated goal. Both teams competed at the National Competition this year.

Titans Helping Others
Gaming Club was able to raise $50 and 50 cans of food/toiletries for the TriCity Food pantry during our annual Game Day in March.
