Daily Announcements

Attention Seniors!
School Traditions will deliver graduation announcements and other senior products on Tuesday, March 16, during all three lunches. See the representatives near the Titan Café. You will receive a postcard in the mail at home if you owe a balance. All orders must be paid in full before you can pick up your products. You may bring the final payment on Tuesday (cash or a check payable to School Traditions). Papillion-La Vista South does not handle these payments. Call School Traditions at 733-0300 if you have any questions.

Girls Basketball
All girls that played basketball this school year will need to meet in Coach Keller’s room after school today. Attendance is mandatory.

2010 Model United Nations Conference
It is time for the 2010 Model United Nations Conference at UNO. If you are interested in representing a country in the conference and you have taken or are currently taking AP Comparative Government, please see Mr. Keller. The registration deadline is March 20.

Culinary Club
There will be NO Culinary Club tonight – but, there will be Culinary Club on Tuesday, March 16, after school.

Put Up The 3
Put Up The 3 is the Nebraska boys’ and girls’ high school 3-point shooting competition that is fashioned after the popular NBA event. It is also a SLAM DUNK exhibition by some of the best athletes in the area! Come see it! The event will be held right here at Papillion-La Vista South High School, on Sunday, March 14, at 6:00 pm. This is a Fellowship of Christian Athletes charitable event. For more information, go to www.Putupthe3.com. We hope to see you there!

State Journalist
Congratulations to Amy McConnell, who was named first runner-up in the State Journalist of the Year competition! Amy will be honored at the State Journalism contest in May for all of her hard work!

Talent Show
If you signed up to try out for the Talent Show being held by the Freshmen Advisories, please be in the Cafeteria, ready to audition, by 5:00 pm, today. If you are not on time and ready, you may not be able to audition. Thank you!

NJROTC
The NJROTC Drill teams competed in the last local drill meet of the season at Bellevue East. As reigning champions, expectations were high to repeat; but we came up 35 points short of the championship placing second overall. The following trophies were received: 1 st place for 1 st year unarmed regulation; 2 nd place in unarmed exhibition, armed exhibition, armed drill overall, and unarmed overall; 3 rd place in overall regulation, unarmed regulation, armed exhibition; 4 th place in armed regulation, and the Fish team, (first year armed drill), placed 5 th in armed exhibition competing against 13 varsity teams. Well done and now on to Nationals in Daytona Beach!

Key Club
Key Club met this morning. If you missed the meeting, please come at 3:30 pm, to Ms. Peetz’s room. We will be discussing the Easter Egg Hunt and Relay for Life so attendance is mandatory.

Become A Mentor!
If you are looking for a way to give back to the community, earn service hours, or just enjoy working with children, think about becoming a mentor. Any students interested in mentoring elementary students please contact Ms. Gomez in room B20.

Please be checking your online grades extra close. Visit with teachers before or after school if needed.

The Torch Needs Your Help
Have a secret? Let it out anonymously by making a ‘Post Secret’ type postcard to be placed in the March 26 issue of The Torch! Post cards must be anonymous, true, appropriate, and must not mention any names! Secrets can be submitted to the journalism room (B10) in the envelope right inside of the door. Titan View
The March show of the Titan View, the student-produced news program, is now airing on COX Channel 18, at 7:15 am, 2:15 pm, and 9:15 pm. The show will air through March 19. It is also available for viewing online by clicking on the link on the front page of the school web site. Stories in this show include features on DECA, Prom, the All-School Play, sports, and many more!

Yearbooks
Yearbooks are now on sale for $66 in room B10, or online at www.yearbookforever.com. Features such as name stamps can only be purchased online through the end of April. If you are not sure if you have ordered a book, check the lists on the door of room B10.

Advanced Placement Exam Registration
AP exam registration has begun and will go through Friday, March 26. Any student who would like to take an AP exam in May must turn in a registration form along with a payment deposit before spring break. Registration packets along with a bulletin were distributed through AP classes – extra forms are also available in Career Ed. The cost of each exam is $86. See Ms. Mead if you have any questions.

Interested in U.S. Service Academies?
Congressman Jeff Fortenberry will be hosting U.S. Service Academy Day 2010 at the Nebraska Air National Guard, 2420 West Butler Avenue, Lincoln, on Saturday, March 27. This is open to high school students and parents interested in the Congressional Nomination process. Bryan LGH College of Health Sciences

Campus Visits and Tours Available To Students
Did you know the #1 factor in choosing a college is to visit and tour campuses? We have a variety of campus visits throughout the semester – pick up a permission slip in Career Ed and return it as soon as possible to reserve your spot!

  • University of Nebraska at Kearney – Wednesday, March 24

This is the first time we have a campus visit to UNK! They are providing a tour bus for Titan and Monarch students. Check out what UNK has to offer! The tour will be from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm. Permission slips are due Friday, March 19.

  • University of Nebraska at Omaha – Friday, April 16

UNO is growing like crazy! We will tour the main campus but we will also visit the South campus to see where the new business school and dorms will be located. The tour will be from 8:30 am to 1:15 pm. Permission slips are due Wednesday, April 14.

  • University of Nebraska at Lincoln – Wednesday, April 21

We will be attending UNL’s Junior Visit Day where you will have the opportunity to sit in sessions on financial aid, student life, and more while meeting with admissions reps and seeing the campus. The tour will be from 8:00 am to 2:30 pm. Permission slips are due Friday, March 26.
