FBLA
(Future Business Leaders of America)
Meetings: Once a month—usually on Thursday, 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

What is it? FBLA is a national vocational student association for students in grades 7-12 who are interested in business or business education careers. Currently, there are over 4,000 students in 100 high schools in Nebraska who participate in FBLA.

What does it provide? It provides the student/tomorrow’s business leaders with the necessary skills to successfully compete in the job market, pursue postsecondary education, or manage personal skills.

What will our chapter be doing? We will be fundraising for various community projects, MADD, March of Dimes, and for travel for participants in workshops and State competitions. These activities will count as community service hours.

How will the fundraising be accomplished? We will be selling concessions in the mornings—once a week—and other food sales at school. We are also collecting/recycling ink cartridges and old cell phones.

Is competition mandatory? No, but it is suggested that you at least “give it a try.” The competitions start in March. Students receiving the top scores will be competing at the State level in April. If a student should finish in the top 2, that student would then be invited to Nationals.

Why join FBLA? This is a chance for students to become more involved both in their school community and the communities around them. Students will meet community business leaders and have a chance to participate in leadership development programs.

What do I do if I’m interested? Contact Ms. Tindell in Room 1287 or e-mail me at atindell@paplv.esu3.org.
