TITAN BOYS GOLF TEAM
FALL INFORMATION SHEET
TITAN GOLF BROCHURE
Coach McCaw and I are thrilled to be coaching the Papillion-La
Vista South Titan boys' golf team. We can't wait until spring.
But there are some things you can do to prepare. We thought
it would be a good idea to give you some information so you
can help the team be as good as possible.
General Information
The boys golf season actually begins on Monday, February 26,
2008. As soon as the weather permits, we will practice daily
at Eagle Hills Golf Course. The practices at the course will
start at 3:45. If the weather conditions don't allow us on
the course, we will meet in room 2201 to learn golf rules,
etiquette, and fundamentals. We will practice outside as much
as possible--even in cold and wet weather. Please dress appropriately.
(No shorts until April 1.) The greens fees and range balls
will be free at Eagle Hills, but you are responsible for your
own transportation to practice. The school district will provide
transportation to away duals and tournaments. The school may
keep no more than 15 players on the team so there will be
cuts made, but I am not trying to discourage you from trying
out.
What You Can Do NOW to Improve Your Chances of Making the
Team
1. Participate in other sports. The physical activity will
add to your strength, speed, coordination, and conditioning.
That will help you with golf.
2. Play as much golf as possible this fall and winter, especially
if you are not out for another sport. I will be at Eagle Hills
Golf Course this fall almost every Monday and Thursday. I'd
love to play golf with as many of you as possible this fall.
(Note: NSAA rules dictate that I not work with more than three
golfers at once.)
If you purchased the High School Golf Pass at Eagle Hills,
your range balls and golf are free. There may be days when
the golf course is too crowded, but we should be able to hit
range balls or play the practice holes. Practice now. It will
help you in the spring.
3. Lift weights if you are not out for another sport. We have
a great weight training facility, and it's not just for the
football team! I will arrange for you to receive a weight
training routine designed for golf.
4. Walk or run. Playing nine holes at Eagle is the equivalent
of walking 2.5 to 3 miles. There is a winter conditioning
program starting after the football season.
5. Excel in the classroom. If you make the golf team (especially
the varsity), you will miss quite a bit of school. Have your
grades in good shape!
