The High Ability Learner Program (HAL) at Papillion-La Vista South offers HAL students a variety of competitive and noncompetitive opportunities including:

Future Problem Solvers - creative thinking linked with effective writing skills to solve a problem that may occur in the future.

Knowledge Masters - challenging trivia questions that require higher level thinking skills and cover curriculum in 17 content areas.

Science Olympiad - rigorous academic interscholastic competition that consists of a series of individual and team events from various science disciplines.

T.E.A.M.S - Tests of Engineering Aptitude, Mathematics, and Science in a team format.
Quiz Bowls - various content questions with a "Jeopardy" twist.

Word Masters - close reading and analysis of different kinds of prose and poetry.

HAL also offers individual competitions such as essay writing and math tests.

HAL students can also earn service hours by participating in Habitat for Humanity and Shoreline clean up at Walnut Creek Recreational Facility, or by mentoring a younger HAL student.

All HAL activities are voluntary and take place over during lunch. HAL students are invited to bring their lunch into room 2113 to participate in stimulating conversation, activities to develop critical thinking skills, additional study time, or to just escape the noise of the cafeteria.

Hope to see you there!
