Mission Statement
The mission of the school-counseling program is to prepare all students academically and socially to contribute at the highest levels as productive members of society, through partnership of empowered students, educators, parents or guardians and the community responsible for the learning process.
Philosophy
The counselors at Papillion-LaVista South believe:
- All students have dignity and worth
- All students have the right to participate in the school counseling program
- All students' ethnic, cultural, racial, sexual differences, and special needs are considered in planning and implementing the school counseling program
- All students shall have access to a full-time, state certified, master's degree level school counselor to deliver counseling program
And the counseling program should:
- Be based on specified goals for all students 9-12
- Utilize the many combined resources of the community to deliver programs
- Use data to drive program development and evaluation
- Be evaluated by a counseling director on specified goals and agreed upon student competencies
Management System
Management agreements within the Papillion-LaVista South counseling program will ensure effective implementation of the delivery system to meet the students’ needs. The students will be assigned to professional school counselors by grade level.
How to See Your Counselor
Students may check out of a study hall to go to a counselor’s office after attendance has been taken by the study hall teacher. Students should make an appointment to see their counselor when possible. Counselors are on duty before and after school for those students unable to find time to come to the guidance office during the school day. Each community is assigned its own counselor, sophomores, juniors and seniors are assigned alphabetically to counselors.
