Athletes Enjoy New Conditioning Program

With burning muscles and heaving chests, students at PL South run to their next station and try to will away the fatigue that has settled in their body.  Coaches call out encouragement and the sound of pounding footsteps fills the air.  Students run up and down stairs and hallways while innocent by-standers try not to get run over.  This is just another afternoon for the student athletes that participate in after-school conditioning.

The after-school conditioning program is based on a stations system that allows large numbers of athletes to train at once.  There are nine stations that include various types of drills that help improve areas such as agility, speed and strength. The variety of activities appeals to students.

“Lifting is my favorite station because when you add weights you feel good,” freshman Grant Pille said. “There’s a real sense of accomplishment.”

The station system was made to give every type of athlete a place to train.

“It is very similar to what I have to do during soccer season,” sophomore Brianna Fernan.

The reason for conditioning collectively as Titans is to bring together the various teams to be one body of student athletes.

“I think it is important because you are working with your team as well as with other Titan athletes,” strength coach Tim Sullivan said.

In addition to getting in shape, this system of conditioning spices up the normal dullness of working out.

“It’s a lot more fun than running laps,” Fernan said.

From running stairs to jumping rope, after school stations conditioning gives student athletes a place to train and an opportunity to come together as Titans.
