Students Reach Out to South Korea
by Jill May
10.24.07
Many students at Papillion-La Vista South participate in service projects around the city. However, two generous young ladies are collaborating to help a community on the other side of the planet.
Juniors Amy and Holly Bremer are raising money for an orphanage in South Korea.
“A little boy at my church was an orphan there and he got adopted,” Amy said.
In 2003, Amy met Mark, a baby who was adopted by a woman who goes to Trinity Lutheran Church with the Bremers. Amy and Mark, now four years old, remain friends.
“If people keep donating we might get more little kids adopted,” she said.
When she is old enough, Amy also hopes to adopt a child from South Korea.
Amy can be seen carrying a jar for students to donate pennies and loose change. The girls hope to collect $1,000 as soon as possible to send overseas.
“It is mainly adults who donate. Kids don’t contribute as much,” Holly said. The Bremers feel that with other students’ help, they can reach their goal.
“It feels good to help out because people in Asia need a lot of help,” Amy said. “I really like it. It makes me feel really good.”
The girls will give all of the donated money to the Omaha branch of Holt International, a Christian adoption agency. This organization will ensure that the money will reach children in South Korea.
Both young ladies have been volunteering for the past couple of years, and will certainly continue to do so. With their combined generosity and thoughtfulness, many children in South Korea will be able to find homes.
